State fire marshal seeks help in London fire investigation

Posted on Jan. 21, 2010

Investigators with the Division of State Fire Marshal and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office issued a request on Jan. 21 for the public’s help in finding the person or persons responsible for the Jan. 12, 2010, mobile home fire at 129 Maple Way in London. Maple Way is located in the Green Meadows Mobile Home Park in Madison County.

The fire, reported at 7:47 p.m., was ruled arson after investigators ruled out all accidental causes and found evidence of the crime of arson. No one was injured in the blaze.

Investigators are seeking any information about the fire or the circumstance leading up to the fire. The occupants of the mobile home received a summons from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 4:30 p.m. on the same date to vacate the home. A little more than three hours later the Central Townships Fire District received reports of a working structure fire at that address.

“We believe that someone has more information about this fire and hope they come forward to help us bring this case to a successful conclusion,” said Madison County Sheriff James Sabin.

“In the past, the community has played an important role in helping investigators find persons responsible for intentionally set fires,” said Interim State Fire Marshal Donald C. Cooper. “We can now use this valuable help again.”

A Blue Ribbon Arson Reward has been posted at the property. The Blue Ribbon Arson Committee is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for the fires. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Fire Marshal’s Fire & Explosion Investigation Bureau at 1-800-589-2728 or the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (740) 852-1212.
