After School Enrichment
The After School Enrichment Program at Madison County Vineyard will begin Feb. 1. The program is open to all Madison County middle school students who want to improve their grades or school performance. In addition to homework help, volunteers lead educational activities designed to help students become more engaged in school.
The program meets on Mondays from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m., and on Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m. on school days Feb. 1-May 7.
Students are given a healthy snack and treats as part of the activities. All tutoring and services are free.
Parents who would like to register a child for the program should plan to attend a parent interest meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 26. Applications are available at the church office at 106 Olive St. in London. For more details, call Pastor Cindy Taylor at (740) 845-0154, ext. 307. Space is limited.
Armory Activities
Madison Area Youth Center Inc. (MAYCI) is holding the following events and classes at the Armory, 15 E. Second St., London (unless otherwise noted). Discounts are offered for children taking more than one class and/or families with more than one child taking classes. For more information, call (740) 852-1595.
• Martial Arts Classes—Tuesdays at the Armory. 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for beginners and sparring; 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for intermediate and sparring. The one-time optional equipment fee is $80. The class is $40 per month.
• Kids in Motion Be-Bop—Gymnastics, general fitness and dance at the Armory on Saturdays. 9 to 9:45 a.m. for 4- to 6-year-olds; 10 to 10:45 a.m. for 7- to 12-year-olds. $40 per month.
• Flea Market and Breakfast—First Saturday of the month at the Armory starting at 8 a.m. Donations are accepted for flea market items and breakfast.
• Prayer time—Tuesdays at the Armory, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Open to everyone.
• WCYC-LP 105.1 FM—Every Saturday, the radio station broadcasts “Sports Slam” from 11 a.m. to noon and children’s programming from noon to 1:30 p.m.
• Pilates and Bodysculpting—At Zion Lutheran Church, 221 S. Center St., West Jefferson. Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Balls and rubber bands provided. $40 per month.
• Flyer’s Pizza fund-raiser—On the second Thursday of each month, Flyers Pizza and Subs, 121 W. Main St. in West Jefferson, will donate part of its profits to MAYCI. Just mention the organization when placing a food order. Flyer’s can be reached at (614) 879-7777.
Breakfast
The Plain City Lions Club’s annual pancake and sausage breakfast will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at Plain City Presbyterian Church, 231 E. Main St. Tickets are $5 for adults (free to kids under 5) and can be purchased at the door or in advance at Plain City Druggist, Schrock Automotive and Yoder’s Hardware. Proceeds will help to provide eye exams and glasses for local children.
First Aid and CPR Classes at American Red Cross
The Madison County office of the American Red Cross conducts First Aid and CPR classes. The cost is $50. For more information, contact Anne Hemphill at HemphillA@usa.redcross.org or call (740) 845-9939. The office is located at 21 W. Fifth St., London. The class schedule is as follows:

Girls’ Basketball Tourney
Triple Threat Basketball will host a fifth and sixth grade girls’ basketball tournament in London March 6-7. The deadline to enter is Feb. 28. Call Darren Long at (740) 506-3450 or e-mail darren.long@london.k12.oh.us.
H1N1 Flu Clinics
The Madison County Health District has scheduled a series of H1N1 flu clinics. The clinics are free and open to anyone.
Children (9 and under) who got their first dose of the vaccine on or before Dec. 31 can now get their second dose.
No appointments are necessary. Call (740) 852-3065 for details.
Three of the upcoming clinics will take place at the health district office, 306 Lafayette St., London. The dates and times are:
• Jan. 21, 4:30-6 p.m.;
• Jan. 25, 10 a.m.-noon; and
• Jan. 27, 4:30-6 p.m.
The other three clinics are at sites elsewhere in the county:
• Jan. 26, 3-5 p.m., at the Mount Sterling Community Center, 164 E. Main St.;
• Feb. 1, 3-5 p.m., at Hurt-Battelle Memorial Library, 270 Lilly Chapel Road, West Jefferson; and
• Feb. 3, 3-5 p.m., at the Canaan Township Building, 8055 U.S. Rte. 42, Plain City.

London Library

• Story Time Activities. Parents and caregivers with children from birth to 6 years of ages are invited to participate in a variety of story time programs at the library this winter and spring. Visit the library to get complete details or go online to www.mylondonlibrary.org. Sessions have already started.
• Book Clubs. The Non-Fiction Book Club will discuss “Standing Next to History: An Agent’s Life Inside the Secret Service” by Joseph Petro at 7 p.m. Jan. 26. The regular Book Club will discuss “The Calder Sky” by Janet Dailey at 7 p.m. Feb. 9.
• Knitting & Crochet Club. The library is holding its next knitting & crochet club session at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 10. The club is open to anyone interested in learning or sharing knitting and crochet techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring projects in progress.
• Movie Night Out. Adults can enjoy “The Invention of Lying” (PG-13) on the library’s big screen at 6 p.m. Jan. 28. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided.
• Family Game Night. Community members of all ages are invited to play board games and Nintendo Wii games at 6 p.m. Feb. 3. Youth under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.
Mount Sterling Community Center

Pancake and Sausage Breakfast
An all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast is set for 7 to 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at the Madison County Senior Citizens Center, 280 W. High St., London. The meal is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.

Plain City Library

• Etiquette Throwdown. At 1 p.m. Jan. 30, the library will host a Manner-fest Throwdown. Kids and their parents can test their etiquette know-how in this game show style program, complete with prizes, for ages 7-12. Registration is required.
• Wii Fit workouts. Exercise in a private setting; the library will provide the equipment. Wii Fit offers games and exercises to improve muscle tone and balance. Track your weight, BM, and time spent working out. This weekly program will begin Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to learn the basics of the Wii Fit equipment. Registration is required.
Professional Development Committee
London City Schools’ Professional Development Committee will meet as follows in the media center’s lower level at London Elementary School, 380 Elm St.: Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 16, April 20, May 18 and June 7. All meetings start at 3:35 p.m. with the exception of the June 7 meeting, which starts at 10 a.m.
Republican Women’s Club
The Madison County Republican Women's Club will induct new officers at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Ann and Tony’s Restaurant, 211 E. Main St., West Jefferson. The new officers are: President Theresa Ames, Vice President Pam Boerger, Secretary Sondra Hayes and Treasurer Joan Denes. Scrapbooking
The Iota Beta Chapter of Phi Beta Psi is hosting a “Crop for Cancer” Scrapbook Day Jan. 30. A $20 donation to the group’s Cancer Research National Project gets participants a table for the day, lunch, snacks, door prizes and scrapbooking ideas. Spaghetti Dinner in West Jeff
The West Jefferson Athletic Boosters is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at Ann and Tony’s Restaurant. Tickets are $10 for carry-out or dine-in. Booster members will serve as the waitstaff. For tickets, contact Jen Miller at the high school.

• Booklovers. The group will discuss “Fool” by Christopher Moore on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
