Young Artist Showcase—Jan. 31

The Conte brothers from Plain City will perform a piano duet at this year's Young Artist Showcase.

The Young Artist Showcase features some of the finest young musicians and vocalists in Madison County. For the third consecutive year, the showcase will take place in the West Jefferson High School auditeria. Performances start at 3 p.m. Jan. 31. Doors open at 2:30. Admission is free.

“We are grateful that the Jefferson Local School District has again waived all fees associated with the rental of the auditeria and are delighted that the owners of Flyers Pizza & Subs have offered to pick up the tab for the custodial fees,” said Mark Potter, a spokesperson for the Madison County Arts Council, which puts on the show.

“The Young Artist Showcase has attracted a standing room only crowd the last two years in West Jeff, and we look forward to a repeat of that this year,” he continued. “This year’s show will be exciting because we are encouraging more of the performers’ accompaniment be provided by the other young artists involved in this year’s show.”

Featured this year will be:

Wilhoit to perform in Children’s Theatre production

Chris Wilhoit

Chris Wilhoit, 10, a fourth-grader at Monroe Elementary in the Jonathan Alder School District, is performing in “The Boxcar Children,” a Columbus Children’s Theatre production that runs Feb. 4-21.

Based on the book by Gertrude Chandler Warner, “The Boxcar Children” is about the four orphaned Alden siblings. In danger of being sent to different foster homes, they run away and make their home in an abandoned railroad boxcar. Pursued by the authorities and a mysterious stranger, the children discover the rewards and perils of life on the run, as well as the joy of keeping the family together.

Wilhoit plays Benny, the youngest of the Alden children. This isn’t his first time on the stage. He also has performed in productions put on by the Madison County Arts Council, Jonathan Alder High School, Monroe Elementary, and London First Presbyterian Church. He is the son of Michelle and Mike Wilhoit.

The Children’s Theatre has scheduled 15 performances of “The Boxcar Children.” They take place on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Feb. 4-21. Tickets are $9 to $18. Shows take place in the Park Street Theatre, 512 Park St., Columbus. To purchase tickets, call Columbus Children’s Theatre at (614) 224-6672, CAPA at (614) 469-0939, or go to www.TicketMaster.com.
