Unity Day Celebration to honor two for service on Eastside

(by Alexa Libert, staff writer - January 12, 2010)

The city of Reynoldsburg will host the seventh annual Martin Luther King Unity Day Celebration Jan. 18.

"This year's theme is 'The color of the dream is love,'" said Bruce Sowell, one of the event's organizers.
The celebration, which begins at 7:30 p.m., was coordinated by We Touch and Agree Christian Ministries and will feature keynote speakers Pastor Bob Martin of the Reynoldsburg Church of the Nazarene and Dr. Trent Hayes, Pastor of the New Antioch Bible Fellowship Church.
In addition, the Rev. David Ackers and Frank Bolen will be recognized for their service to the citizens of Reynoldsburg. Ackers, this years' recipient of the Keeper of the Dream Award, is being recognized for his time spent mentoring youth and Bolen for his work with senior citizens and veterans.
A lot of people who do things in Reynoldsburg do so under the radar, explained Sowell during the Jan. 11 city council meeting. Sowell added that he wanted to extend a personal invitation to the citizens of Reynoldsburg to recognize these individuals who have demonstrated leadership and service to the community.
Two fallen war heroes also will be honored, Sgt. Titus R. Reynolds and SFC Daniel H. Smith, both of whom served in the United States Army.
The event will be held at the Reynoldsburg Municipal Building, located at 7232 E. Main St., and is free and open to the public.
