Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.

Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every first and third Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Amity Care Home Health at 334-6800.

Newspapers for dogs
The Franklin County Dog Shelter is asking for help from the community. The shelter is running very low on newspaper. 
The shelter uses approximately a pallet load of newspapers each day to line the dog cages. It relies on donations of recycled newspaper from groups and individuals, as well as any surplus newspapers from daily and suburban newspapers whenever they are available.
The shelter needs full-size papers only, no tabloids or ad circulars, please. If you have surplus newspapers or recycled newspapers you can donate, please take them to the shelter located at 1731 Alum Creek Dr. You can drop them at the backdoor during business hours. After hours please deposit newspapers in the bins located behind the shelter, they are accessible 24-hours daily.

Lions host pancake breakfast
The Grove City Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast on Jan. 9 from 6 a.m. to noon at the Grove City United Methodist Church, 2684 Columbus St. Donations will be accepted at the door for the pancake and sausage breakfast. All proceeds will be used for Lions Club student eye exams and the glasses program for Grove City community. For additional information, or to make a donation contact Duane Shaul 875-0708.

Military prayer service

Fencing in the city
The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department will offer a beginning fencing class for children ages six to 10 beginning Jan. 22.
This six-week class will be taught by fencing specialist Sergey Danilov on Friday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Park Annex, 4034 1/2 Broadway. All fencing equipment will be provided, and the cost is $90 ($95 for non-residents).
Often called "physical chess," sword fighting combines a great mental workout with physical fitness. Pre-registration is required for all youth classes.

Dark comedy at LTOB
The Little Theatre Off Broadway will present "Incorruptible" by Michael Hollinger.
"Incorruptible" is a dark comedy set in 1,250 A.D. France. Priseaux Abbey is in a jam. Someone has stolen the bones of beloved St. Foy, and the brothers face starvation. Things begin to look up when Brother Martin hits upon an idea save the monastery. Mayhem sets in when the Pope decides to pay a visit.
Performances run on Fridays and weekends from Jan. 15 through Feb. 6. Tickets are $10; student and senior citizen tickets are $8.

LTOB auditions
The Little Theatre Off Broadway will hold open auditions for "Li'l Abner."
Al Capp's world famous characters sing and dance in an upbeat musical extravaganza: a satisfying mixture of hillbilly nonsense and sharp, critical humor. "Li'l Abner" is laced with gentle satire, rib-tickling humor, and a host of brash, catchy tunes.
Auditions will be held on Jan. 17 and Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at the theater. The show calls for 40 adult men and 12 adult women, both ages 20 and up. Prepare to sing approximately one minute of music, do cold readings from the provided script, and be prepared for dance/movement. Acting resumes and photos are welcome.
