Groveport revenue down, but development in 2010 is looking up

The village of Groveport's finances have had a rocky 2009, but 2010 is holding some promise of financial renewal.
Finance Director Ken Salak reported at the Dec. 14 Groveport Village Council meeting that Groveport's 2009 income tax revenue is down 21.6 percent from this time in 2008.
Income tax revenues for November were $519,763, a decrease of 24 percent compared to November 2008 when revenues were $684,999.
The total income tax revenues so far for 2009 are $8.3 million, which is down compared to the $10.6 million received by this same time in 2008.
However, Economic Development Director Jeff Green told council that development activity in his office is "skyrocketing."
"If all the proposals go through, we could fill all of our vacant space (in the industrial parks)," said Green.
Green also announced that Kraft Foods has signed on to lease the approximately 937,000 square foot warehouse and distribution building located on Spiegel Drive in the Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park. He said Kraft Foods is expected to move in during the summer of 2010 bringing an estimated 115 jobs to the area.
Other Groveport news
•Golf Director Tom Walker reported that 31,269 rounds of golf have been played at The Links at Groveport in 2009 through Dec. 11. That's up from 20,144 in 2008. He said since the village has owned the course, "There has never been a month where there were 4,000 rounds played in a month. In 2009, not only were there four months that exceeded 4,000 rounds played, but in the months of June, July, and August more than 5,000 round were played per month."
Walker attributed the golf course's success this year to "excellent weather conditions," and the 15 percent fee reduction.
•Walker said the golf course will host the state tournament high school girls golf sectional qualifier in October 2010.
