Pickerington residents to see storm water utility rate hike

At the beginning of next year, Pickerington residents will see an increase in their storm water utility rates.
Pickerington City Council members voted unanimously to double the water utility rates at their Oct. 20 meeting.
Currently, the rate is $1.50 per effective residential unit; starting Jan. 1, the monthly rate will be $3. On Jan. 1, 2011, the rate will rise again to $4 a month.
"Residents are aware (of the rate increase)," Municipal Clerk Lynda Yartin said. "Letters have gone out."
In other news, the Hill Road North culvert project is slated to begin in November. The project's contractor reported to council that the necessary pipe has been ordered and the project should be done in three days from start to finish.
City Engineer Greg Bachman said the plan is to work around the clock, weather permitting, to keep the road closed for the least amount of time.
The Hill Road North project will begin after Diley Road is completely open, sometime in November, he said.
City Service Manager Edward Drobina reported that the finishing touches are being completed along Diley Road, including the installation of traffic lights, and noted that once the lights are installed they will need to remain on flash for 10 days before being able to be synced red, yellow and green.
