Celebrate the ‘Next Chapter’ at the Bexley Public Library
The Bexley Public Library, in partnership with local preschools, schools and the Bexley Mother's Center will be hosting a celebration at the library from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 4.
"Celebrate the Next Chapter" will commemorate the library building's 80th birthday while showcasing local children through an art exhibit of their works.
Montrose Elementary School art teacher Becky Liefeld provided the inspiration for the art exhibit with the phrase "Once upon a time every famous artist was a child."
The library's interim director, Susan Studebaker, says having children's art at the library is something to celebrate.
"As we acknowledge the 80th birthday of this wonderful building and look toward the future we find that children have been, and always will be, an important part of the library," she said. "One of the most exciting things we do at the library is to help grow readers. This art display will celebrate not only the visual imagination of the children in our community but also the imagination of authors who have helped build the library's collection. We want children to see themselves in the library and what better way than through an exhibit of their works."
The afternoon will also host musicians from the Bexley Middle School who will perform between 2 and 3 p.m.
A hands-on craft activity for young children will offered in the children's area throughout the event. This activity is sponsored by the Bexley Mother's Center and the Waste Not Center.
Anyone younger than the age of 18 who would like to exhibit one or two pieces of their art can drop them off at the front desk of the library from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.
The art exhibit will available for viewing at the library from Oct. 4 through Nov. 8.
The library is located at 2411 E. Main St. For more information, call (614) 231-9709.
