Scout to sell bicycle helmets to raise money, promote awareness
A scout working toward his Eagle Scout rank will sell bike helmets to promote bicycle safety and to help raise money for a local garden group.
"As a service to my community and the communities around me, I am going to sell 180 bike helmets to promote bicycle safety due to the new law enforced by Columbus on July 1," said Anthony Murdock with Troop 826 out of the VFW hall on Waggoner Road.
Murdock will hold a sale at Bexley City Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 25 and at the Reynoldsburg Police Department from noon to 4 p.m. July 26.
The helmets cost $8.25 each and come in two sizes: small/medium and large/extra large. There are three colors: green, blue and red.
"You can't get CPSC Approved Economy bike helmets for less than $20 in stores," Murdock said.
Murdock hopes especially to draw children ages 5 to 13 from area communities, including Bexley, Whitehall, Pataskala, Reynoldsburg, Pickerington and Gahanna.
"I am doing this to fund the second part of my Eagle Scout project, which is to build several cedar park benches for the new Bexley Community Garden group," he said. "They are a non-profit organization that has taken an abandoned field and turned part of it into viable land are are growing food and giving it to the food pantry."
