Water, sewer lines for Rodebaugh to be included

Water and sewer lines for Rodebaugh Road will be included with the projects in the Reynoldsburg Capitol Improvement Project (CIP) list.
"I understand that people on Rodebaugh have a legitimate concern, especially after last year's windstorm left them without water," Councilwoman Leslie Kelly said. "At one point the project was ready to go then it hit snags. We need to engage the residents as to what possible solutions (would allow the city) to move forward."
Twenty-one people live on Rodebaugh Road - 12 in the city and nine in the town, Auditor Richard Harris said.
When the city last attempted the project 10 years ago, the price to run water and sewer lines would have been $60,000 per house and residents would have paid $2,900 to tap into the water.
The high cost to the city plus the exorbitant price a resident demanded for an easement are "why the project was abandoned," Harris said. "It was beyond the scope of what was reasonable at the time."
All the residents would have been forced to attach to the sewer and "a number of people" did not wish to do so because of the cost. State law requires that residents excavate retired septic tanks or fill them with gravel, Harris said.
"Let's look at engaging the community again because (situations may be) different than 10 years ago," Kelly said.
Some projects on the CIP document extend into 2013, Councilman Ron Stake said. By including Rodebaugh Road, it will ensure the issue "is still on the radar. It will be something we will do in the future."
