Funding obtained for Alum Creek Drive
The Ohio Controlling Board has approved a $7 million Logistics and Distribution Stimulus Loan to the Franklin County Engineer for costs related to the reconfiguration of the Interstate 270, Alum Creek Drive interchange; and the Alum Creek Drive,/Groveport Road intersection in the village of Obetz.
The project will create 44 construction jobs.
"I'm excited about stimulus resources coming to Obetz to spur job growth," said State Representative Marian Harris (D - Columbus). "By restructuring these two areas on I-270, we're going to generate jobs and allow more business to flow into Franklin County and Ohio. Opening up new economic opportunities is our chief concern right now. Rickenbacker has already created jobs, not only for my district but for the rest of the state. This project will improve Rickenbacker's role as a major transportation and distribution hub in the Midwest."
The project in Obetz involves the reconfiguration of both the I-270 and Alum Creek Drive interchange as well as the Alum Creek Drive and Groveport Road intersection at an estimated total cost of $13.55 million.
The focus of the project will be to improve the flow of traffic through the existing Interstate 270/Alum Creek Drive interchange and the Alum Creek Drive/Groveport Road intersection. The volume of traffic traveling between the Rickenbacker Intermodal Facility, surrounding freight/logistics operations, and Interstate 270 has exceeded the capacity of the existing roadways.
