Summer concerts
The Center for Groveport Madison Human Needs will host summer concerts fromn 7-8:30 p.m. on Sundays at Groveport's Heritage Park. All concerts are free with a free will collection to benefit the Center.  Concessions available from other local area non-profits. Interested non-profits should contact Go Groveport at 836-7939. •June 7 - Americana Concert coordinated by Terri Christiansen, includes community choirs and talent
•July 12 - Soulified and Gospel Roadmasters
•July 26 - Oblivion Fire (rock and roll)
•Aug. 9 - CityFolk, (acoustic band)
•Aug. 23 - Z Sharp Band (big band/swing)

Calling all history buffs
A lecture on medical procedures used during the Civil War will be held June 10, at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Learn about military doctors and surgeons in the Civil War by a medical re-enactor who will describe medical care and surgerical procedures. This event is free.  This month the art gallery in Town Hall features a Civil War exhibit which will be on display from June 5-30. For information call (614) 836-3333.

Community choir
A community choir is forming to support the Center for Groveport Madison Human Needs. No experience necessary. Anyone who wants to participate in the choir should plan to attend at least one rehearsal at Groveport United Methodist Church, 512 Main St., on May 28 at 7 p.m., May 31 at 2 p.m. or June 4 at 7 p.m.  The next performance, Americana, will be held June 7 at Heritage Park. Picnic in the Park
Picnic in the Park during the Groveport Farmers' Market & More, June 18, July 16, and Aug. 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair with a picnic dinner or purchase dinner from featured food vendor. Sit on by the fountain on the beautiful lawn of Groveport Elementary and enjoy entertainment from local talent.  For information contact Go Groveport at 836-7939 or online at www.gogroveport.com

KidSpace dedication
Groveport's Crooked Alley KidSpace, 630 Wirt Road, will be dedicated June 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A ribbon cutting will be held at 10:30 a.m. The facility, which features a "FunSpace" and a library, will host children's programming such as art classes, dance, preschool playgroup, Scout meetings, birthday parties, art camps, and music lessons. KidSpace was created through a partnership with the village of Groveport, local businesses, and central Ohio funding agencies. Call 836-3333.

Nature Fair
Groveport's annual Nature Fair will be held June 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road. The event features nature programs, Metro Parks, hay rides, petting zoo, crafts, face painting, and displays. Call 836-3333.

Civil War exhibits/activities
Groveport will host several Civil War activities and events in June including a month long exhibit of Civil War artifacts and memorabilia in the art gallery of Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Other Civil War activities include:
•June 9 - Just for Kids: board games and toys from the Civil War era at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall. Free.
•June 10 - Lecture by a Civil War doctor; a re-enactor will describe surgeries and medical care at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall. Free.
•June 18 - Learn about military graves in the Groveport Cemetery at 7 p.m.
•June 19-21 - Civil War encampment: See how Civil War soldiers set up their camps at Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road.
•June 20 - Just for Kids: Kids can get a Father's Day photo with a Civil War re-enactor and then create a refrigerator magnet at Groveport Town Hall at 10 a.m. Cost is $2 for residents and $3 for non-residents.
•June 30 - Meet Governor Dennison: Hear a free lecture by a Civil War re-enactor portraying Ohio's Governor Dennison, who was governor during the Civil War at 7 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall. Sponsored by the Groveport Heritage Society.

Painting class
Learn how to paint decorative flower scenes onto windows on  June 1 and June 8 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St. Instructor will provide windows. Cost is $40 for residents and $45 for non-residents. Register at (614) 836-3333.

Groveport Senior Center
The Groveport Senior Center, located in the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, offers the following:
•Mondays -play bridge at 11:30 a.m. or progressive euchre at 12:30 p.m.
•Tuesdays - double deck pinochle at 12:30 p.m.
•Wednesdays - all - noon: poker, quilting;  5 p.m.: double deck pinochle; fourth Wednesday - 10 a.m. - Super Game Day.
•Thursdays - all - 9:30 a.m. - crafts; 11:45 a.m. - lunch; first Thursday, 10 a.m. - Game Day; 12:30 p.m. - hand & foot; second Thursday - 9 a.m. to noon - county nurse; 12:30 p.m. - business meeting; 1 p.m. - hand & foot; third Thursday, 12:30 p.m. - cash bingo, hand & foot following bingo; fourth Thursday, 12:30 p.m. - euchre, hand & foot.
•Fridays offer bowling at Eastland Lanes at  9 a.m. and poker at 6 p.m.
•Saturdays progressive euchre at 6 p.m.
•Sundays are to just come in and relax.

Heritage Nature Center
The following programs are offered at the Heritage Nature Center at the log house in Heritage Park on Wirt Road in Groveport. For information call 836-3333. 
•May 28, 7 p.m. Evening Nesters: Join us at Groveport's Cruiser Park, 4677 Bixby Road (soccer fields) for an evening of bird watching. Meet at the entrance to the field. bring your binocular.

Groveport Garden Club
The Groveport Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Groveport Zion Lutheran Church, 6014 Groveport Road, Groveport. The club welcomes anyone interested in gardening. For information call Virginia Myers, 836-5456.

South High reunion

Columbus South High School's class of 1959 will hold its 50th reunion on Aug. 7, 8, and 9 at Deer Creek State Park Lodge. Members of the January class not contacted may reach Jo-Ann Carter Smith at (614) 414-0367. Members of the June class may contact George Poppy at (740) 927-6799.

Groveport Relay for Life

The Groveport Relay for Life will be held June 26-27 at the Groveport Recreation Center from 6 p.m. to noon.  This year's fundraising goal is $30,000.  For information about the event or how to register teams or individuals, e-mail tykraft20@aol.com or call (740) 603-2344.  Committee and team captains meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center.  

Summer Lunch Program

The Summer Lunch Program is coming back to Groveport Madison this summer.  The program, sponsored by the Ohio State Department of Education, is designed for children ages 0 to 18. The program will be at Middle School North (Sedalia) and at Middle School South (Glendening).  Volunteers are needed a day or two each week from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. during the summer. Get fit
Every Monday and Thursday at 6:15 p.m. low-impact aerobics is offered at the Groveport Recreation Center 7370 Groveport Road. Also offered is a strenght and toning class every Friday at 10 a.m. Drop in rates $5/$6 or save money with a Fitness Freedom Pass purchased at the front desk.
