CW Sertoma meets
Canal Winchester Sertoma Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at Donatos Pizza, 6310 Prentiss School Drive, Canal Winchester. Sertoma's main sponsorship focus is speech and hearing. Sertoma exists for the noble purpose of "Service to Mankind" by communication of thoughts, ideas and concepts to accelerate human progress in health, education, freedom and democracy. Hopeful Hearts
Hope United Methodist Church, 83 E. Columbus St. in Canal Winchester, will sponsor a free baby clothing distribution for sizes 0-5T, known as Hopeful Hearts, from 10 a.m. to noon on the fourth Saturday of each month. Donations accepted. For information call (614) 837-7548.
CW golf outing
The fifth annual Canal Winchester Area Historical Society Scramble Golf Outing will be held at the Pine Hills Golf Club, 4382 Kauffman Road in Carroll, on June 13 at 11 a.m. Cost of the event is $65 per golfer and includes green fees, cart, awards, and a steak dinner at the club house. Mail reservations to CWAHS at P.O. Box 15, Canal Winchester, OH 43110. Proceeds support the operation of the historical society.
Music & Art in the Park
Canal Winchester will kick off its free 2009 Music & Art in the Park concert series at Stradley Park Place, next to the Canal Winchester Municipal Building at 36 S. High St. on May 15 from 6-9 p.m. featuring dancers from Studio C from 6-7 p.m. and Swing's the Thing, a 16-piece big band ensemble, from 7-9 p.m. The event will also include the Living Statue, Mark Abatti, and original artwork displayed by the Canal Winchester Art Guild.
Upcoming concerts:
•June 19 - Hillbilly Deluxe, a country music band, along with a roaming magician, and a police, fire, military and construction vehicle display.
•July 17 - A cruise-in and '60s/'70s band, the Gas Pump Jockeys. Caricature artist, Sean Platt, will also be onsite offering free caricatures.

Survivors sought
The Canal Winchester Relay For Life is looking for cancer survivors to attend the Relay For Life Survivors Dinner on June 12. The free celebration dinner will immediately follow the 6 p.m. opening ceremonies of the Relay and be held in the CW High School cafeteria. Survivors can bring a guest/caregiver. Simon Kenton presentation
The Canal Winchester Area Historical Society will present an appearance by living history re-enactor Kenneth Hammontree who will portray noted Ohio historical figure Simon Kenton on June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Frances Steube Community Center, 22 S. Trine St., Canal Winchester. The public is invited to this free presentation. For information call Carol Note at (614) 837-0928.
Explore the Outdoors
In correlation with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), the village of Canal Winchester will provide events for children and their families to participate in the Explore the Outdoors program, which features 10 activities to complete through Sept. 1. Children participating in each event will receive a code to enter online for a printable certificate signed by Governor Ted Strickland.
There are three types of certificates available, depending on how many codes have been entered. The certificate levels are: Beginner Explorer (enter 2-4 activity codes); Intermediate Explorer (enter 5-7 activity codes); and Advanced Explorer (enter 8-10 activity codes).
The first 100 children to become an Advanced Explorer will receive a GreenBird birdhouse, and all participants will be entered to win a grand prize camping trip. In addition, those completing the Get Caught Up in a Clean Up and Recycle Ohio activities will earn a recycling patch. Children and families can join Canal Winchester's Urban Forester Dick Miller to complete different activities throughout the summer. Events include:
•Spot a bird at Walnut Creek Park (7155 Parkview Drive) on June 11 from 9-11 a.m. Other activities at Walnut Creek Park: Hike a Trail, Explore a Wetland and Get in a Clean Up.
•Catch a Fish at Howe Pond (Howe Industrial Parkway) on June 18 from 9-11 a.m. Other activities at Howe Pond: Spot a Bird, Explore a Wetland (end of Dove Parkway) and Get in a Clean Up
•Explore a Wetland at Walnut Creek Park (7155 Parkview Drive) on June 25, from 9-11 a.m. Other activities at Walnut Creek Park: Spot a Bird, Hike a Trail and Get in a Clean Up
•Discover a Stream's Inhabitants (downstream of the Covered Bridge at James H. Kelley III Preserve at Ashbrook Road and Washington Street) on July 2, from 9-11 a.m. Other activities downstream of the covered bridge: Spot a Bird, Hike a Trail, Catch a Fish, Splash in a Stream and Get in a Clean Up
•Hike a Trail at Walnut Creek Park (7155 Parkview Drive) on July 9 from 9-11 a.m. Other activities at Walnut Creek Park: Spot a Bird, Explore a Wetland and Get in a Clean Up
