WAC makes plans for parade

(by Sandi Latimer, Staff Writer - March 20, 2009)

Members of the Westland Area Commission are beginning to make plans to participate in the Fourth of July Holiday Parade and set up an information booth afterwards.

This year’s holiday parade, held annually on the Saturday before the holiday by the Westland Area Business Association, will be held on Saturday, July 4, with a parade route down West Broad Street, stopping at the Lincoln Village Plaza.

“I’d like to get this done sooner than later,” WAC President Mike McKay told his members at the March 18 meeting. “I don’t want to wait until the middle of June to figure out what we will be doing.”

Ashley Hoye, the commission’s community relations chair, said the theme and grand marshal were announced at WABA’s last parade meeting.

“The theme will be ‘The Spirit of the Westland Area’,” he said. “The grand marshal will be Steve Ulrey of Flyers Pizza.”

Members also talked about setting up a booth in the shopping center parking lot where they would distribute information to the public on the work of the commission and how to apply to become a member.
