Cotner named as new Reynoldsburg Councilman
(by Rachel Scofield, Staff Writer - January 31, 2009)
Cotner Funeral Home owner Barth Cotner has been chosen as Reynoldsburg's newest council person.
After the Jan. 26 council meeting, local business owner and community activist Barth Cotner swore an oath to fill the council seat recently vacated by Antoinette Newman.
A lifelong resident, Cotner has become active in the Reynoldsburg community.
Among the many civic groups to which Cotner donates his time are the Kiwanis Club of Reynoldsburg, the Reynoldsburg-Pickerington Rotary Club and the Reynoldsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
"I believe Reynoldsburg is a great place to work and raise a family," Cotner said. "I plan to stay here. (Becoming a council member) is another way to help make Reynoldsburg better."
Council members should be "accessible and accountable," therefore he encourages anyone with questions or concerns to contact him at his funeral home.
Cotner said he has a "pretty good feel" for what concerns the residents, but he has a "lot to learn" about what occurs behind the scenes, he said.
"It should be interesting," Cotner said.
Cotner is married to Julie Cotner, who teaches at Graham Road Elementary. The couple have two children - Lucie, 21 months, and Casey, 5 months.
