Last year on school board for two

(by Christine Bryant, Eastside Editor - January 17, 2009)

Bexley School Board members Steven Grossman and Diane Peterson announced at the Jan. 12 Bexley School Board meeting that they will not seek re-election this year.

Grossman said the school district is facing significant financial issues that will have an impact on the schools' ability to provide an excellent education to the district's students - something that will be a challenge for any incoming board member.

"It's important for this school board to take actions to prepare for that," he said.

Both members served as board president during their tenure, with Peterson serving most recently this past year.

Grossman will have served on the school board for 12 years, with Peterson finishing her eighth year this year.

Both Grossman and Peterson said they hope their two seats will be filled by community members who have a vested interested in the success of the school district.

"I would encourage folks to come out and attend our meetings and see what we do," Peterson said.

There will be three seats total up for grabs in the November election, with the third belonging currently to Andrew Sutter, who was named the board's new president at the meeting.
