PT passes sidewalk ordinance
Prairie Township’s Aug. 15 meeting began with a brief public hearing regarding the 2007 Sidewalk Improvement Program.
This year sixteen residents participated in the township-wide assessment, which will end up costing Prairie Township just over $22,700.
As Administrator Tracy Hatmaker clarified, the hearing took place in order to give final approval on the plans, and also so that the board could authorize the forwarding of the assessments to the County Auditor for tax purposes.
“It’s a program that we’ve had for years,” Chairman Steve Kennedy remarked. “We’ve always had good luck with it.”
In other township news, Franklin County sheriffs described the past few weeks as “normal,” citing a lessening of crime. As a result, the department is taking a more preventative and proactive approach for the remainder of the season. Sheriffs also advised drivers to be cautious over the next few weeks as school is starting up again.
Fiscal Officer’s Report
Before asking the board to approve this sessions payroll, Fiscal Officer Lori Montag notified the board that some township documents have gone missing. She began by reminding the three trustees that she sent an e-mail and a letter to each trustee months ago regarding the matter. Chairman Kennedy followed up her announcement by requesting a complete list of all missing township files.
Roads and Cemetery Department
During the week of Sept. 10 the Roads and Cemetery Department will be doing the second phase of their annual street cleaning of township roads that have curbs and gutters. Road Superintendent Dave McAninch asked that all residents remove their vehicles from the streets from 7a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The board addressed a number of pending nuisance cases this week, citing two overgrown properties on Postal and one unkempt lawn at Moss Court. In addition, the board declared a property on Woodlawn Avenue to be a nuisance due to trash and debris. Trustees then authorized township staff to remove each nuisance at the resident’s expense.
