BBQ in West Jefferson
The West Jefferson High School Student Council and 2010 After-Prom Committee will sell barbecue sandwiches from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at C&C Towing. The pulled pork sandwiches are $5 alone or $6 with chips and a drink.

First Aid Classes

Madison County Hospital is offering first aid classes to the community. The three-hour class will use the American Heart Association guidelines. Classes cost $25 and include a workbook. The class is offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on May 19 and June 30. All classes are offered in the Park Avenue Medical Building Conference Room at 55 Park Ave. All participants must pre-register to attend the class. Call Missy Peak at 740-845-7307.

Free Legal Clinic
The Madison County Bar Association Interfaith Legal Clinic will be open on May 12 at Crossroads Community Church, 62 E. Second St., London.  The clinic provides free legal advice from a lawyer for those whose gross household income is less than 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for registration, with interviews beginning shortly thereafter. The purpose of the clinic is to help low-income people who cannot afford a lawyer move one step closer to resolving their legal problem. The clinic does not guarantee that any person will be rep-resented by a lawyer on an ongoing basis.

Kindergarten Screenings
• London Elementary will hold another day of kin-dergarten registra-tion on May 14. Children will need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1. Parents should call 740-845-3272 to schedule an appointment.

• Jefferson Local Schools will hold kindergarten registration and screening May 15-16 at Norwood Elementary, 899 Norwood Drive in West Jefferson. For an appointment, 614-879-7642, ext. 4301.

Live Music
At 2 p.m. May 18, Mark Potter and his son, Chase, will perform at the Madison County Historical Museum in London. The center of attention will be the museum’s 145-year-old rosewood piano, which Potter recently renovated. The Historical Museum is located at 260 E. High St., London. • Book Clubs. The regular Book Club will discuss “The Birth of Venus” by Sarah Dunant at 7 p.m. May 13. The Non-Fiction Book Club will discuss “John Adams” by David McCullough at 7 p.m. May 27.
• Knitting Club. The library is hold-ing its next knitting club sessions at 11:30 a.m. May 14 (bring your own lunch) and at 7 p.m. May 20.
• Friends’ Book Sale. The sale will run May 15-18. The Friends’ Preview Night (Friends members only) is 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. The sale is open to all on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   
• Friends’ Plant Sale. The Friends of the Library have partnered with Blue Shoe-Young Farms and London Florist to sell perennials, hanging baskets, ornamental grasses, herbs and more  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 in the library parking lot.

Mothers of Preschoolers

Motorcycle Ride and Car Show
On May 17, the 9th Masonic District of the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio will hold their annual Spring Fun Run to raise money for Special Olympics. The event includes a motorcycle ride and a car, truck and bike show.

The morning ride will start at the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield at 8 a.m. with a free breakfast and registration. All entries for the ride will receive an event shirt and admission to the afternoon show. The self-paced ride includes a scavenger hunt for which riders must find historical facts from the area. The ride will end at the Madison County Fairgrounds in London.

The afternoon car and bike show at the fairgrounds is open to anyone who wants to enter. There will be six classes, a best in show award, and a club participation award. All voting will be by people’s choice.

Food and beverage vendors will be on hand. A live band will play at 1 p.m. The day also will include a charity auction of items featuring everything from oil change coupons to gift cards.

Relay Fundraisers
The following fundraisers benefit the American Cancer Society.

• Dinner. The Madison County Health Department’s “Wild About Wellness” Team will serve a pork loin/beef and noodles dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16 at the Madison County Senior Center in London. The “Music Men” barbershop quartet will perform. Tickets are $10 for adullts and $7 for children under 12.

• Spaghetti, Meatballs and Euchre. Dinner is $7 and will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. May 17 at the VFW Post, 139 S. Main St., London. A euchre tournament will start at 7 p.m. (sign-ups at 6:30); the cost to enter is $7. Lori’s Karaoke will provide music. The night also will include a raffle and 50/50 drawing. • Storytimes. Spring Storytime will be held through May 14. Toddler Time for children ages 18 months to 3 years old will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Rhyme Time for children ages 3 to 5 is set for 11 a.m. on Tuesdays. Baby Time for little ones ages birth to 18 months will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays.

Women’s Walking Group
