Ohio Unearthed" Can you dig it?

Discover the treasures of Ohio's underground past in an exhibit from May 3-29 at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., made possible through a collaboration between the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Divisions of Geological Survey and Mineral Resources Management and The Ohio State University's Orton Geological Museum.
"Ohio Unearthed!" will include a two foot fish jaw bone and other fossils from the Devonian period, when Ohio was a tropical climate; bones from an Ohio Mastodon that lived thousands of years ago, with soil that children can sift through to find their own treasures; Ohio crystals, rocks and minerals; displays and hands-on demonstrations and activities.
Groveport Naturalist Tina Dillman, director of the Heritage Nature Center, curated the exhibit, which will also offer the following free programs at Groveport Town Hall: "Have You Eaten Your Rocks Today?" Rocks used in everyday life. May 12, 7 p.m.; "Mastodons." What have scientists learned about these huge creatures? May 18, 2 p.m.; "Rocks Rule!" A hands-on program of science and crafts on May 22 at 7 p.m.; and "Coal: Old Plants in our Modern World" on May 29 at 7 p.m. For information call (614) 836-3333.
