Obituaries


ALDER
Jon Charles Alder, 63, of London died April 6 in Carlsbad, Calif. Born on Oct. 1, 1944,in Columbus, he was a son of Jack and Thelma (Geese) Alder. Charlie had been in auto sales for 13 years and with GTE, now Verizon Yellow Pages sales, for 12 years where he was a five-time President’s Award winner and DSM. For six years, Charlie was with Automatic Data Processing (ADP) and he was a four-time President’s Club winner in sales and new project manager.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of London and Masonic Lodge F&AM. He also served as a board member for the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Clark, Madison and Greene Counties, was a founding member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) in Madison County, and a board member of Ohio NAMI.

While struggling with his own physical illness, he won Ohio’s NAMI Stigma Buster Award in 2007 for being instrumental in passing parity legislation for Ohio’s mentally ill.  He also won the 2007 National Rona and Ken Purdy Award to end discrimination in San Diego, Calif., for outstanding work, leadership and vision on behalf of people with mental illness and their families.

He received tributes from Ohio Representatives Chris Widener, House District 84, and Speaker John Husted for being instrumental in the passage of Senate Bill 116 and House Bill 53 through the Ohio General Assembly.

Funeral services were held April 11 in First United Methodist Church of London. Friends may make memorial contributions to NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), 74 E. CASTILOW
Carol A. Castilow, 67, of London died April 15 in Madison County Hospital. Born on May 29, 1940, in Youngstown, she was a daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Hall) Petrila. She was a former employee of Packard Electric in Warren, Ohio, and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. The family was served by Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London.


DUNN
Nicole Leigh Dunn, 31, of South Solon died April 9 in Springfield Community Hospital. She was born on May 17, 1976, in Clark County. Graveside services were conducted April 11 in Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Ohio.  The family was served by Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London.


MILLER
Donna Kay (Cozad) Miller died April 15 in her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 25, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Rev. W.L. and Charlotte Cozad. Donna was a 1958 graduate of London High School and retired from the Madison-Plains School District in 1997 after 30 years as secretary of Madison Rural Elementary. She received the Lifetime Member Award from the Madison County DARE Program, of which she was a strong supporter. She was a former volunteer at Madison County Hospital, and many remember her as co-director of the annual Central Township Fire Department Candy Sale and an honorary member of the fire department. A gathering of family and friends was held April 18 at Madison-Plains Middle School and again from 9 to 11 a.m. April 19, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Donations may be made to the Donna Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund or Loving Care Hospice. The family was served by Rader-Lynch and Dodds Funeral Home, London.


MONTGOMERY
Thomas W. “Monty” Montgomery, 52, of Malta, Ohio, died April 11 in Morrison House Hospice, Zanesville. Born on Oct. 23, 1955, in Wilmington, he was a son of Walter and Cena (Miller) Montgomery. Tom was a member of H.V. Christopher Post 1176, VFW, and had been a bartender and host at several area restaurants including the Red Brick Tavern in London and Ann & Tony’s Restaurant in West Jefferson. Funeral services were held April 15 at Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home. TOWE
Alice Belle Towe, 83, of London, died April 14 in Good Shepherd Village Nursing Home in Springfield. Born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Alliance, Ohio, she was a daughter of Jack and Leona (Belle) Parr. Mrs. Towe formerly operated her own day care center and later founded and operated Helpmates Inc. in Cleveland. Funeral services were held April 17 at Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London.


WANZER
Tamara “Tami” Wanzer, 42, of East Fultonham, Ohio, died unexpectedly April 11. Born on July 10, 1965, in London, she was a daughter of William and Sue Ann (Holzman) Rockwell. Funeral services were held April 18 at Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory, London. Memorial donations may be made to the funeral home.
