Community says "Thank you, Mr. Bexley"
Bexley Mayor David Madison, right, and his wife, Cheryl, are greeted by Ohio State University President Gordon Gee, one of the many dignitaries who attended a Nov. 18 reception to honor the mayor for his 32 years in office. At the event, organized by City Councilman Rick Weber, it was announced that the city's new pool would be named for Madison, who is leaving office this year. A plaque, with portraits of Madison and a list of his accomplishments, will be installed. The $8,500 in remaining donations for the event will be divided between the Bexley Celebrations Association and Trees for Bexley. Others attending included former Columbus mayor Greg Lashutka, who presented Madison with proclamations from Governor Ted Strickland and U.S. Senator George Voinovich, and Congressman Pat Tiberi, who delivered a proclamation from President George W. Bush. Below, Madison received the Bexley school district's Starthrower Award from board President Diane Peterson and Superintendent Michael Johnson Nov. 19, for his support of the schools.
