Looks like Alder has a tenant for old elementary school

Jonathan Alder Schools might have a new tenant for the old Plain City Elementary building, vacated last fall when the new school opened.
On Nov. 12, the school board gave Superintendent Gary L. Chapman permission to pursue a lease agreement with Daily Needs Assistance, which operates through Vineyard Church of Plain City.
The nondenominational program provides services to Union County residents in need and has been growing steadily since it was founded a few years ago.
“We’ve outgrown our space,” said Vineyard pastor Mike Coates. Daily Needs Assistance is located at 224 Gay St. in Plain City.
At start-up, the program was serving four or five families, but now serves several times that number, Coates said. Daily Needs Assistance provides a community meal the last Saturday evening of the month. In addition to a nutritious meal, participants can visit a personal needs pantry, a pet food pantry, the Kids Kloset, get income tax service and learn about home care.
The program’s administrators hope to add a pregnancy crisis center and resumé writing services soon, Coates said.
School board member Steve Votaw asked if anyone from the school district was sitting on the Daily Needs Assistance board, to which Coates said “no.”
“But the (Plain City) village administrator is,” he said.
“It’s good for the physical side of the building to have someone occupy it,” Chapman stated. To Coates, he added, “What you are doing for Plain City is fantastic.”
The school board voted 5-0 to give Chapman permission to pursue leasing the building.
