Create a turkey pinwheel in time for Thanksgiving

Turkey pinwheels keep children occupied long after the bird is carved. Shake up this year’s Thanksgiving with a crafts table.
Here is what you’ll need for turkey pinwheels:
• Double sided scrapbook paper, measuring 8 by 8 inches.
• Brown, red and orange construction paper.
• Googly eyes.
• A straight pin.
• Three beads.
• Straight, sturdy straws.
• Scotch tape.
Start by cutting the turkey’s head and body out of brown construction paper, using your own design. Then cut out a beak and wattle from orange and red construction paper. Add two googly eyes to complete the face.
Help your child stick a straight pin through the top of the turkey’s beak and then temporarily set the turkey body aside.
Next, craft the pinwheel using scrapbook paper. Using double-sided paper, featuring fun patterns, gives the turkey feathers color and character.
Fold the square diagonally from the bottom left corner to the top right corner, open, and repeat on the other side creating an “X” shape in fold marks.
Cut slits from each corner along these folded lines, stopping about an inch from the center. Gently bend (without folding) every other corner into the center and overlap the end points.
Take the turkey’s body and carefully help your child pierce the straight pin through the center of the pinwheel, making sure to include each corner.
Almost done! Slide three beads onto the straight pin and poke it through the top of a straw. Bend the end of the pin for your child, tape it down carefully, making sure to cover the pin entirely.
Voila! The turkey pinwheel is ready for a spin. Show off your child’s work by adding it to your tabletop centerpiece.
