Thanksgiving outreach begins
(Posted Nov. 9, 2012)
HELP House has made changes to its annual Thanksgiving outreach for which clients pre-register to choose items to make their own Thanksgiving dinners.
In the past, HELP House strived to provide all of the items clients needed to make a complete meal. Due to budget shortfalls, the non-profit is focusing on the main dish this year, making sure each family or individual receives a significant frozen item, such as a turkey or ham. HELP House will offer clients other meal items from whatever is collected through donations.
The following items are being collected through noon on Nov. 14: turkey breasts, turkeys, hams, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, gravy packets, stuffing mix, canned yams or sweet potatoes, and dessert mixes or pie crusts and canned fillings. Monetary donations will be applied to the provision of meat.
Volunteers also are needed for the outreach project:
• Nov. 14, noon-3 p.m.—Set up food stations, move tables, hang signs and clear out the regular pantry
• Nov. 14, 6-8 p.m.—Organize food stations
• Nov. 15, 6-8 p.m.—Organize food stations. (This session might be cancelled; status depends on the work completed the day before.)
• Nov. 17, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.—Thanksgiving outreach day. Arrive at 8 a.m.; training begins at 8:15. Manage food stations, restock every hour, carry food to vehicles and clean up food stations (noon-1 p.m.).
