Steve Hatcher of The Groove Weasels rocks out on the bass during a performance at the Hilltop Bean Dinner. The Groove Weasels entertained guests with an array of blues, funk and rock tunes from noon to 5 p.m. Band members also include Sarah Hatcher, John Purcell and Greg Fee.

Area youths, Van, Jack and Xander Gosselin greet personalities from the “Star Wars” universe. Asher Zawodni, Jess Bohanan and Scott Thomas belong to the Rebel Legion, a costuming organization and fan group that holds 50,000 members worldwide. Their chapter, the Great Lakes Base, serves Ohio and Michigan.

John and Barbara Lowry speak with residents about the Greater Hilltop Area League for the Arts (GHALA). Local artists showcased their work inside the GHALA tent for visitors to browse.

Resident John Slavery portrays “Marcus,” a Roman centurion who was present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Members of the Trinity Assembly of God held a children’s play area near the Westgate Shelter House. The church has dozens of period costumes it uses in solo dramas to teach lessons from the Bible.

Civil War re-enactors demonstrate an encampment at the Hilltop Historical Society tent. (Left to right) John Sheck dressed in the blue uniform of the Union Army; while Steve Lewis and Adam Dickersons wear the gray attire Confederate prisoners at Camp Chase would have worn.

Car and motorcycle enthusiasts were treated to more than 200 classic and modern vehicles. The event is sponsored by A-Tec Upholstery & Body Shop. All proceeds benefited A Special Wish Foundation.

Neighborhood youths, Brianna, Shakia, Damia, Damon, Janyah and Ashati play inside a 1967 fire engine from Folsom, W.Va. Ron Haws purchased the engine for the children of Columbus to explore during community events like Cars in the Park.

John Gerlach, senior sales consultant at Performance Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge, places a $500 donation to A Special Wish Foundation on the windshield of a 2012 Dodge SRT8 Charger. Representatives from Performance Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge helped sponsor this year’s Cars in the Park and displayed several new car models, including the new charger.

Parents line up with their children at a number of bounce houses and children’s games.
