First Saturday at Green Lawn explores life of historian

The life of historian Henry Howe will be featured at First Saturday at Green Lawn on May 5.

The program will be held at 11 a.m. in the Huntington Chapel, located in the center of Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave.

Carol Allaire, a descendant of Howe, will speak about her great-grandfather, who chronicled Ohio history in a one-volume book prior to the Civil War. It was considered a best seller for the time.

Howe revisited the project after the Civil War, a project that consumed three volumes.

After the program, a tour will end at Howe’s grave.

Green Lawn is accepting volunteers for a fence-painting project on May 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. This project is in celebration of Join Hands Day.
