Speed limit might be reduced near casino site

(by Sean Lehosit, Westside Editor - March 14, 2012)

The Franklin County Commissioners requested for the state to reduce the speed limit on a segment of Georgesville Road to 35 miles per hour.

Both the commissioners and the Franklin County Engineer’s Office believe the road is too congested with construction projects at this time for motorists to safely travel 45 miles per hour.

The reduction in speed would be temporary and enforced between West Broad Street and the area just south of the Camp Chase Railroad.

This decision came after a speed study was completed by the county engineer’s office in January 2011. Its study found the area near Hollywood Casino warranted the speed limit changed, after weighing variables like characteristics of the road, development in the area and the number of accidents.

The state controls the speed limit of county roads, therefore, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will now evaluate the existing speed limit.

If ODOT approves the speed reduction, the county engineer will post new signage along Georgesville Road with the new restriction.
