Westside Year in Review - 2011


The Westside saw the implementation of several projects in 2011, including the improvements of some main roads and the casino project. Here are some highlights:

January
• Franklin County launches sanitary sewer projects in the Mon-E-Bak and Brown Road areas.

February
• Columbus City Council invests $4 million toward building new sidewalks.

March
• Alkire Road shuts down for the reconstruction of the railroad overpass.

April
• Penn National breaks ground at the Hollywood Casino site.

May
• The city of Columbus and Penn National reach an annexation agreement  for water and sewer services.

June
• Franklin Township launches its building department.

July
• Prairie Township demolishes the former Hometown Inn.
• Columbus City Council rezones Cooper Stadium from rural to commercial planned development.

August
• The city installs safety cameras on the Hilltop.

September
• Franklin County begins reconstruction of Georgesville Road north of the railroad tracks.

October
• Final plans for the redevelopment of West Broad Street submitted to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

November
• Incumbents Timothy Guyton and Doug Stormont re-elected as trustees for  Franklin and Prairie townships.
• Prairie Township residents vote in favor of a Joint Economic Development Zone (JEDZ).
• Franklin County commissioners allocate $350,000 toward demolishing 17 blighted properties throughout the county.

December
• Prairie Township trustees adopt the Big Darby Accord Town Center Master Plan.
