Sidewalks in store for West Mound Street

City of Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Councilman Hearcel Craig and Hilltop residents celebrated a new sidewalk project on Sept. 23.

Sidewalks will be installed on both sides of West Mound Street between Brinker Avenue and Binns Boulevard.

The segment of West Mound Street currently has no sidewalks, except for 291 feet of sidewalk on the south side of West Mound Street, near Bishop Ready High School.

“These new sidewalks will allow students and families to walk more safely along Mound Street,” Coleman said. “We continue to invest in sidewalks across Columbus to increase pedestrian safety near schools and on arterial streets with heavy traffic.”

The 0.3 miles of new sidewalks are part of $4 million in capital improvement funds the city invested in pedestrian safety projects, including 9.2 miles of sidewalks citywide.

“Sidewalks tie a neighborhood together making it easier for residents to interact with each other, which can foster a sense of community. They reduce the number of pedestrian accidents which makes a neighborhood safer,” said Lisa Boggs, Ogden Avenue Block Watch and Hilltop neighborhood leader.

Columbus has constructed 67.58 miles of sidewalks since 2000
