Southwest program donates $4,000 to foundation

The 2010-11 graduating class of the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce Southwest Leadership Program.

The 2010-11 graduating class of the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce Southwest Leadership Program has made a donation of nearly $4,000 to the Success Beyond the Classroom Foundation (SBCF).

As part of the Chamber’s leadership program, class members are required to complete a group project together. This year’s class opted to raise money for SBCF which provides scholarships to fund pay-to-participate extracurricular activity fees for South-Western City Schools students in need.

Deana Gordon, one of this year’s graduating class members, suggested the SBCF be the beneficiary of funds raised during a recent golf outing.

Jerry Sowers, a 1994 graduate of Westland High School, says he knows firsthand about the benefits of extracurricular activities, having participated in golf, baseball, soccer, choir and men’s ensemble.

“It is great to see this year’s class raise funds for a cause that is so important to the students of the district where we live,” Sowers said.

Money raised by the leadership program will be used to support scholarships for students interested in fall and winter sports and band.

The SBCF relies on individual, corporate and other donations to offer scholarships. Donations are always needed and appreciated. For information on how to donate, visit www.successbeyondtheclassroom.org.
