FT sanitary sewer projects on schedule

After meeting with the contractors in charge of the Mon-E-Bak and Brown Road sanitary sewer projects, Franklin Township Road Supervisor Jim Stevens said both projects are making progress despite recent weather conditions.
“As of (June 21), even with the weather coming into play, they’re still on schedule,” Stevens said.
Stevens added the construction company adjusted their schedule to accommodate the recent rainy weather. Additionally, they plan to bring in extra crews to compensate for any lost time.
While the projects remain within the agreed time frame, they still face several issues, but officials are sure the projects will not be delayed.
“We have a hot topic up around the North Franklin Elementary School,” Stevens said. “They had a projected date of bringing in equipment and materials toward the middle of this month – right now that date is standing to be around July Fourth weekend.”
Residents voiced concern about roads near North Franklin being shut down when school is back in session.
However, the contractor is aware of their time frame to complete that area before school lets in and assured the township that once the area is started, they will concentrate efforts and finish before it can become an issue.
Stevens said they are also running into a situation with Little Avenue due to the narrow roadway.
“It’s a narrow road, and with the big equipment down there on Little Avenue, it turns into a kind of situation with traffic,” Stevens said.
According to Stevens, the construction company has the option to shut down Little Avenue for two hour increments at any time.
“If anyone lives in that area, it’s an inconvenience for everybody, but it’s going to be a good thing when it’s done,” Stevens said, adding they are scheduled to complete Little Avenue by the middle of July.
Also, the main lines and laterals have been installed on Brookside Boulevard and Gladstone Avenue. The main line has also been installed at the east end of Dover Road, with laterals coming in soon.
According to Stevens, as of June 29 construction is half way up Dover Road going west and the contractor is finishing the east end of Plainview Drive.
The construction company will wait 30 days to allow the ground to settle before paving.
